  2. Jif is an 8-year-old rottie. We took her to a specialist on the Monday before Christmas to surgically repair what we thought was a torn ACL. Turned out it was cancer and they wanted to remove her back leg immediately. We were devastated. Especially when we were told she probably only had 6-12 months to live.

Well, it’s now been over a month and Jif seems to be her perky self. She’s a big girl (weighed about 130 lbs. pre-surgery) and had a bit of trouble getting up before this all happened. So she still has a bit of trouble getting up but once she’s up and going she does real well.

We put down a 12-foot walkoff mat over the vinyl in our kitchen. That helps her a lot. We were told to feed her less and try to slim her down a bit. Since she’s a chow hound, we have added fruit and veggies to her diet without adding too many calories. We’re also giving her Missing Link, Wheat Juice powder and only filtered water. I know. We’re grasping at straws. Will try to post some picture next week.

It was interesting to see pictures of Nikki on another blog. She was going DOWN a stairs. We really haven’t tried the stairs yet except for one step down from the patio to the side walk.
